Rainbow Swimmers

Same as before, just a more lush, gorgeous stretch velvet lycra, delicious!!!

K requested no cross over straps for these ones, and I left the bows off, cause I don't think this fabric needs any embellishment,  they aren't quite a snug fitting but they are getting their first work out currently.

Yum cherries!!

So it's Australia Day here and aside from the fact that I seemed to have pulled some muscles somewhere in the vicinity of my ribs and am sewing in very short bursts.  I managed to make K some togs.

I used the La Jolla Swimsuit pattern by Peek-a-Boo patterns.  I made the size 8 - K is slender but tall she's is 7 1/2.

I didn't have to tweak the pattern to fit at all.   I like how it has nice bottom and front coverage, it's stylish but still girlish.

Fabric is a lycra blend from Girl Charlee that I've had for awhile, I didn't read the description that well when ordering and I thought it was a cotton lycra print for tees, turns out it wasn't.  So I have it in both black and white background.  Swimsuit lining and the green trim are both from Spotlight.  I couldn't get red lycra there, why am I not surprised.

Anyways pattern went together well, I used a combination of 3 thread overlocking for main seams.  Zigzagged on the elastic, except for the straps when I used the overlocker.   Topstitched with a twin needle.

Anyways year of ethical fashion and all that, so I'm off to make another pair, in something a bit brighter.  Stay tuned …...

Baguettes

Long time no chatter on the crafting/cooking blog - ah well - you know life and that got in the way.

But I'm determine to sew and bake more again this year - last year was lets just say less than stellar.

Anyways I baked bagels off the Christmas break, they were good - these are better!!!!

Sarah bought me a Baguette Kit for Christmas from here

They did provide a recipe and it was this one from here  - I did tone down the salt to one teaspoon but otherwise followed the recipe.

It was easy to follow - it is quite a wet dough - so I used the oiled hands aka Paul Hollywood.

I didn't have to knead it for very long at all

I did over flour the cloche oops!

And I should have checked the length of the baguettes BEFORE rolling them to check they would fit on the tray and in the oven - FAIL they didn't, so they got cut in half.

The first and third batches from the oven were best, the second one was a bit too crunchy - no idea why though.  I did also put a pan of water in the oven - you need a super hot oven.

They were DELICIOUS!!!  the recipe made enough for 5 cherubs for lunch, they were goooood!!

Would I make them again HELL YES!!!  Though I would make them fatter and shorter and they would be delicious with really good melty camberbert, prawns and avocado, super thin slices of rare roast beef - well heck pretty much anything you want to put on them, they were THAT good.  I don't know if I can buy a fake baguette now from the store.

There is a fair bit of wait and see time, but very little manual labour involved.

Happy New Year

Wow 2014 and already nearly half way through the month.

Here at the Cherub camp we had a lovely break over Christmas and spent time with family.
Sweltered through some very hot days - ergo laid in the paddling pool.
Ate way too much chocolate and really good bread - baguettes on the rise as we speak.
Saw Frozen - yah nice and cool and a lovely story.
Visited the museum to see some new exhibit - GOMA is on the agenda for next week,
Indulged in Max Brenner ice cream,
Read lots of books and played board games.

But it's time to get back into the swing of things.

Things have changed in the cherub household and sewing time is much more limited than it has been previously so how I stock and when will change slightly.

I'll be stocking every month at Gossamer Dreams

Customs will be limited to wait list ladies - and I'll be starting the wait list again from the last lot on 1 February, I will be concentrating on one customer at a time, so you get your goodies in the normal speedy fashion, I really don't like making people wait once they have paid for their order.

If you'd like to join the wait list for 2014 - please email us at angel@cherubskiss.com - with Waitlist in the subject, you will receive an email reply to let you know we have your email details.  There is no guarantee of time frame - though if you are expecting a new arrival or you have a special day coming up - please note that in the body and we'll see what we can do.

Have a special request as a gift or for someone special again please do not hesitate to contact us, and we'll see what we can do.

I will randomly stock as time allows.

That's it for now, I will possibly be sneaky - so you'd best follow along with the blog and newsletter to keep up to date.

Cheers till next time
The Cherubs!
